Most teenagers and youth infected by HIV/AIDS face stigma, discrimination and poverty. They find it difficult to sustain themselves. Getting the basic needs to survive is often nearly impossible.
Some are luckier than other. Some receive treatment and have been educated. Gordon Turibamwe, a 20 year old artist who is a double orphan infected with HIV/AIDS is one of those lucky ones.
Gordon decided to launch an art project to help make dreams come true. His goal is to improve the well being of HIV positive youth artists infected and affected by HIV/AIDS. Gordon believes that these individuals can provide creative, innovative, quality products to a lucrative market. His vision is to help young people develop their talents, discover the value of their work, earn an income to improve their lives and help eradicate poverty.
In 2007, Gordon, with the help of Mukasa Andrew and other youth attending Baylor College of Medicine Children’s Foundation and infected with HIV/AIDS, founded GORDON CREATIVE ARTS in Kampala, Uganda. GORDON CREATIVE ARTS is helping youth acquire skills and develop Income Generating Activities (IGA's) in the area of arts and crafts. This new income provides these orphaned children with the basic needs of life including food and education
