About Me
[View Member Profile]

I am an Illustrator, painter and art-critic.
Born in Chandigarh , studied BFA, MA(history of art) UGC
I have held 5 solo shows in India. I work usually in simplified figurative manner and my images largely concern drama of human struggle, fate and the
supernatual element. The first and foremost concern of mine as a visual artist, is the visual. Though symbolism always allures me, yet I would like to believe that tangible concern beyond the sub-conscious content is the Form. The world of visual art has travelled extensively since its cave days. Artists of our age have an entire sea of `isms’ and `schools’ to prepare a cup of tea for themselves. I don’t believe in linear growth, i.e., a growth in terms of chronological order. Thus, choosing an imagery (or no imagery) for one’s works is as independent an act as choosing one’s clothes or food.

My skills are trained under western influence, but my life is trained under Indian values, so at present when I paint, I fuse the westernised form with Indian form and philosophy of idealism and Karma. It’s like being on an Indian pilgrimage wearing jeans. The inclusion of human form in my paintings occurs in two contexts. One reflecting the worldly surroundings (which is lesser), and second fantasy. Human form is the visual interpretation of `heroic valour’ in my paintings which is eventually affected by the otherworldly powers. Thus, the hand of a man symbolises_ the efforts and the fate.

To paint is like living a life. The extemporaneous and the deliberate actions play simultaneously in life and art. However the sincerity of these actions depends upon the intensity of necessity. The more intense the need, the more unobtrusive the action, and more truthful the performance. This is what I understand and believe of art.
